1.0 Queries on Ethanol Fireplaces

1.1 What is the difference to other providers?

What sets the HOME FLAME COLLECTION apart is the innovative "Safe Stone-Fire" fuel chamber design. This design combined with optimal efficiency makes an excellent price performance ratio. Moreover, all models meet safety standards and are easy to put into operation without the need for a chimney sweep to do maintenance work. All 1.7 liter flames (except CHIMNEY and PURE) are TÜV certified.

1.2 Can the FLOOR or UNI FLAME FLAME be placed on wood floor?
Yes, they can be safely used on wood floor.

1.3 Can FLOOR FLAME or UNI FLAME be placed on carpet flooring?
Yes, if care is taken to avoid direct contact between the combustion chamber and the carpet itself. For this reason neither product should be stood on deep-pile carpets.

1.4 Can WALL FLAME or CORNER FLAME stand on the floor?
The construction of these FLAMES is only suitable for wall mounting.

1.5 Can FLOOR FLAME stand on a sideboard?
It is possible if the safety instructions are adhered to.

1.6 What application areas have the FLAMES and/or where can I set them up? Inside or/and outside?
Following FLAMES can be used inside as well as outside: Semi Flame, High Flame, Top Flame and Uni Flame. Chimney Flame, Wall Flame I & II and Corner Flame are recommended for indoor use only.

1.7 Can I mount rollers under the FLOOR or UNI FLAME?
Please note that we cannot guarantee safe operation when such modifications are made.

1.8 Can I put decorative stones or wood as decoration around the fire?
Please note that any decoration must be fireproof. Remember never to insert items into the combustion chamber itself.

1.9 Is it OK to hang a picture 1.50 meters above the fire?
There is danger of fire if the recommended minimum distances are not complied with. The heat may damage the picture or painting.

1.10 How much heat is produced by 3 kW?
Kilowatt is a unit used for measuring heating output and cannot be expressed in terms of °C. The actual temperature varies greatly depending on other factors such as room size and air supply. Since it is an open fire, however, the heat generated is pleasantly warm.

1.11 How hot does the glass get?
Avoid touching the glass when the fire is in operation. Once the flame is extinguished the glass cools rapidly.

1.12 How hot does the combustion chamber get?
Please see Point 2.1.

1.13 How hot does it get beneath the FLAMES?
The underneath of the combustion chamber reaches a temperature of around 80°C.

1.14 How hot does the stainless steel surface get?
Although the stainless steel surface does not get extremely hot, you should avoid touching those areas very close to the combustion chamber.

1.15 How should I clean the fireplaces?
Please consult the care instructions.

1.16 Can I use a different bio-ethanol?
In principal, you can use any other bio-ethanol. However, impure ethanol will produce unpleasant residue, heavy staining of the ceramic foam and an unpleasant odor. The bio-ethanol supplied by RADIUS DESIGN (art.-nr. 536 3L, 5L, 10L) is 96 % pure bio ethanol denatured using 1% MEK and bitrex.

1.17 Can I also use combustion gel/paste from a DIY store?
The combustion chamber is designed exclusively for use with bio-ethanol.

1.18 Must I use always the ceramic foam?
Failure to use the ceramic foam results in the fire no longer complying with our safety requirements. We strongly advise to always us the ceramic foam.

1.19 Must the ceramic foam be replaced once it is black?
Burning RADIUS DESIGN bio-ethanol will cause slight discoloration of the ceramic foam, but this is nothing to be alarmed about. When ordering replacements please quote: 536 STEIN 54.

1.20 Must I open the flue if the combustion chamber stands in an open fireplace?
No, the flue must remain closed during operation. Only when it is closed will the best results be achieved.

1.21 If the fire is out but there is still bio-ethanol in the combustion chamber must the flaps be left open or closed??
The flaps must remain closed to prevent the bioethanol from evaporating.

1.22 How can I prevent spontaneous ignition?
In order to maintain even flames make sure that the ceramic foam is completely covered with bio-ethanol.

1.23 When I close the combustion chamber the fire continues to burn at the sides. How can I prevent this from happening?
The small flames can be extinguished easily by quickly opening then closing the flaps. In necessary, this step can be repeated.

1.24 The fire only burns on one side and the flames are not as large as those shown in the images. Why is that?
Please see the answer to question 1.21.

2.0 Queries on assembly and installation

2.1 What must be taken into account, while installing the combustion chamber (PURE FLAME)?

2.2 Can FLOOR FLAME be mounted on a shelf?
Please read the safety instructions.

2.3 Can the fire also be mounted on a gypsum wallboard?
Yes, providing you use a suitable mounting method for cavity walls the FLAMES can be affixed to gypsum wallboard.

3.0 Queries on bio-ethanol

3.1 Is burning bio-ethanol dangerous to the health? After all, you can also use it to drive your car!
When you burn high-grade bio-ethanol (see question 1.15) most of it is converted into steam and carbon dioxide. Providing you comply with the safety instructions no danger is involved.
